My role within the project is the Quantity Surveyor and Cost Consultant, basically the one who looks after the money side of things, often called the bean counter!
As part of my role, I visit the cathedral on a regular basis. As my office is only 10 minutes’ walk away from the cathedral. It is great to be able to pop up there on a frequent basis and see the progress.
I attend regular project meetings and run through the through finances on the project. I also have the opportunity to go up the scaffolding and view the works as they progress.
As part of this project, I had the opportunity to visit Holywell glass studio and view the works in progress to the glass panels. It was great to see the work that goes on behind the scenes and get up close and personal with the windows. You really do see them from a different light. This has probably been my favourite thing to date on the project. It was great to the conservators in action and see how they go about tackling restoring the panels to the original glory.
It’s hard to choose my favourite window. They each have their own special merits, but if I had to pick, it would be the last judgement window. The colours and details of the people are something else.
I am really enjoying working on this project and I am excited to see the final outcome…..
