Guidance for Self-Guided visits to Birmingham Cathedral
Booking Self-Guided Visits
If you’re planning a teacher-supervised self–guided visit then please do notify us in advance as we can ensure your trip does not clash with other cathedral events and avoid us having to turn you away. It is wise to book in advance as much as possible.
Entry to the Cathedral
We do not charge for entry to the cathedral, as we believe this beautiful and sacred building should be available to all. However, donations are always welcome and can be made in advance or on the day through our card payment machine or donations box. We welcome you warmly to the cathedral and will endeavour to provide a welcome in person from a member of the cathedral team.
We have no areas for lunches but, in good weather please feel free to make use of the grassed areas in the churchyard or the many cafes and restaurants in the vicinity.
We have no publicly accessible toilets. Please speak to welcomer on the day should your group need access to facilities.
You are welcome to use photography in the cathedral. However photography of services taking place, the choir rehearsing or school visits is not permitted.
What is expected of the staff and group leaders or parent helpers?
The building can accommodate large groups but we ask that they are divided into smaller groups.
Teachers and adult helpers should stay with their groups at all times since they remain responsible for the control and supervision of the groups at all times. The cathedral is place of prayer and worship and this should influence the respectful manner in which groups use the building. Please be mindful that the cathedral is always open to the public and it is advisable to keep your belongings with you at all times.
