Take part in an hour of prayer for Climate Justice

Please join us online for an Hour of Prayer, Reflection and Stillness for Climate Justice, in collaboration with Christian Aid.

Prayer is powerful!

As the climate crisis wreaks havoc in our world, we are drawn to our most ancient of traditions – prayer.

Bringing us to a posture of humility, prayer allows us to lament the brokenness of creation and hope for the restoration of our world. We have faith that our prayers are heard and can bring transformation, even in the midst of injustice. That is why we gather in vigil, to pray for creation, for our global neighbours, for bold climate action from the UK Government.

Starting on Ash Wednesday (14 February 2024) people from across the UK will be holding vigils for environmental and climate justice outside UK Parliament around the clock for 10 days.

While we might not be able to support these vigils in person, our cathedral community is supporting virtually, with an hour of prayer for all to join in with from home.

Get involved

Our online vigil will be available from 2000 on Thursday 15 February 2024.

Our hour of prayer for Climate Justice is led by members of our cathedral Eco Church group – who are working to improve the sustainability of church, by enacting our strategic priority of being good stewards of God’s creation. The vigil focuses on how we can marvel, lament, hope and be transformed, as we speak up against the damage being done to our world at such an alarming rate. Our vigil includes readings, reflections and prayers – with plenty of space for you to offer up your own prayers.

If you would like to send us your own thoughts, reflections or prayers in response to the vigil, please use the webform below. You can also let us know if you want to find out more about our work with Eco Church, and share your views on how we might be able to become more sustainable as a cathedral community.
