Worship and Music

Christian worship is at the heart of cathedral life as we offer to God our praises and prayers.

As a Church of England cathedral church, we are home to a vibrant worshipping community, drawing people from across the Diocese of Birmingham.

Our worship is enhanced by Anglican Choral tradition. Our excellent professional Cathedral Choir of boys, girls and adults sings five services each week in various formations during choir term times.

Everyone is welcome to attend any our public services, as we rejoice in the diversity of the communities we serve and promote inclusion as widely as possible.

As a parish church we welcome enquiries about baptisms and weddings.

Special services and occasions

In addition to our regular services, we also hold a range of special services throughout the year.

We usually mark the Principal Feasts and Holy Days of the Church with a Choral Eucharist at 1945. We also hold Ordinations; the Admission and Licensing of Readers; and schools’ services in partnership with the Diocesan Board of Education. During Advent and Holy Week we also hold a programme of additional opportunities for prayer, reflection and worship.

Our work with civic partners to mark significant, national, international and local occasions for the city and the diocese is a key way for us to promote community cohesion through important partnerships.

Livestreaming of services

Following the popularity of our livestreamed services during the pandemic, we continue to offer some livestreams of services. Daily Morning Prayer and our main Sunday services are livestreamed via YouTube and our Facebook page.

Where streamed services involve our choir, these will be removed the next working day following the service. Spoken services may be available for longer, depending on the service.
