We are delighted to introduce our new Cathedral Chaplain, Colleen Shekerie. This exciting new appointment is a significant addition to our team.
Colleen said:
“Following a time of great emotional, physical and spiritual challenges, the Dean and Chapter of Birmingham Cathedral have worked in close partnership. They want to reimagine the pastoral care in the parish of Birmingham city centre.
In a city that has grown exponentially and has become known for its diversity of culture and languages, the chaplaincy is an integral front-facing position. It will offer a heartfelt welcome to the cathedral; a listening ear; and sanctuary for all who visit us.
I regard this appointment as an innovation, as well as an opportunity to reimagine God in action, visible and active. The position of chaplain at Birmingham Cathedral is one which combines both pastoral care and outreach work. This will help the wider community of the cathedral’s parish.
My aim is to work together with our membership, staff and all who contribute to the continuing ministry of St Philip’s. My prayer is that, as chaplain, I can continually encourage all to walk in the way of Christ. We are to be his hands and feet in such a time as this.”
